Beneficial Owners from Brønnøysund

BetaAvailable to selected teams; feature toggle bosFromBrreg.

Strise integrates with the Norwegian Register of Beneficial Owners (Register over reelle rettighetshavere) managed by Brønnøysundregistrene (BRREG). This allows you to fetch and monitor beneficial ownership data directly from the official registry.

Step 1: Getting Access

To use this integration, your organization must first apply for access to the beneficial owners API from BRREG.

  • Apply at brreg.no
  • You will need to select the appropriate access level for your organization

Step 2: Delegating Access to Strise

Once you have been granted access, you need to delegate it to Strise as a system vendor. This is done through the standard Altinn delegation process for system vendors.

Important: The delegation must include the scope brreg:reelle/rapporteringspliktig.

Data Fetched

The following data is retrieved from the beneficial owners registry:

Registration information:

  • Registration date
  • Registration status

Beneficial owner details:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • National ID (when available)
  • Country
  • Citizenship
  • Reason for beneficial owner status

Matching Logic

When beneficial owner data is received from BRREG, Strise matches it against existing entities using a three-step process:

  1. Match against existing beneficial owners — The system first attempts to match the incoming data against persons already registered as beneficial owners for the entity.
  2. Match against other known persons — If no match is found among existing beneficial owners, the system checks against other persons connected to the entity (e.g., role holders, other owners).
  3. Create custom entities — If no match is found in either step, a new custom entity is created in Strise for the beneficial owner.

Monitoring

Beneficial owners imported from BRREG are monitored like any other entity in Strise. They are included in daily PEP and sanctions screening, and any changes to their registry data will trigger alerts through the monitoring system.

Keeping Registry Data in Sync

BRREG beneficial owners are fetched once, the first time an entity is viewed after the integration is enabled, and stored as entity edits rather than being recomputed on every view. After that, Strise polls BRREG’s change log (endringslogg) and automatically refreshes or removes the imported beneficial owners whenever the underlying registration changes — for example, if BRREG marks the company as deleted from the register, its imported beneficial owners are removed.

How Registry Data Relates to Computed Beneficial Owners

BRREG-imported beneficial owners sit alongside beneficial owners Strise computes from ownership and role data (see How Beneficial Owners Are Computed). Neither source silently overrides the other:

  • BRREG data is stored as an entity edit, so it appears in the entity’s edit history like any manual change and can be reviewed or removed the same way.
  • If a computed beneficial owner and a BRREG-imported beneficial owner disagree on the same company, both are shown — the BRREG-sourced entry carries a registry-verified marker so you can tell it apart from a computed result. Strise does not automatically discard either side; a reviewer resolves the discrepancy through the entity edit flow.
